The 18-year-old dropped a Twitvid just hours before the single’s debut, in which he spoke to the camera while saying…

“I’ll pick you up around midnight. We’re going to do something special, maybe head over to iTunes and pick up a single real quick…. I will be your boyfriend if you just head over [to iTunes] and get the single”

He then completed his ongoing Twitter countdown with a link to iTunes as midnight…

Mike Posner, who helped produce the song, is also credited as a co-writer on the track which combines an airy beat and jangly percussion.

Bieber sings “If I was your boyfriend, never let you go/Keep you on my arm girl, you’d never be alone” on the hook, as an acoustic guitar adds some substance to his vocals.

Bieber recently told USA Today that he sees his upcoming new album as an opportunity to present a more mature version of himself…

“I’m maturing, and my music’s maturing, so I wanted to do something different”
