Who were the winners and losers at the box office at the weekend?

Last weekend saw more box office record smashing in the UK, a number one debut in Australia and a weakened US box office as a result of tropical storm Irene.

Civil rights comedy-drama ‘The Help’ has topped the US box office for the second weekend in a row.

Despite a large number of East Coast cinemas being forced to close as a result of Hurricane Irene, the Emma Stone-led adaptation still took a total of 14.3 million dollars.

‘Horrible Bosses’ has topped the Australian box office in its opening weekend, making an estimated domestic total of over 3.1 million dollars, knocking last week’s number one ‘Friends with Benefits’ down to third spot.

Aussie movie ‘Red Dog’ remains in second place with box office takings of $1,939,761, three weeks after it achieved the biggest opening weekend box office results for a home-grown film this year.

‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ has shattered records at the UK box office on its first full week of release. The sitcom spinoff, remains at number one and has recorded the biggest live-action comedy opening ever in the UK. The movies £20 million take surpasses the £17 million earned by ‘The Hangover Part II’ earlier this year and puts The Inbetweeners Movie’s total at £27.7 million.
