United Nations wants gay World Cup players to come out to help promote both equality and visibility.
The UN Human Rights Commissioner believes that the players should do so as they are role models.
Navi Pillay from the United Nations wants gay World Cup players to come out. Pillay is the Human Rights Commissioner and believes that the players are role models who can help promote both equality and visibility by coming out.
Pillay clearly states her position,
“I encourage players, sports people to declare their sexual orientation without fear.”
She believes it’s an important message to send to fans,
“That’s the only way they will find the right to sexual orientation accepted. They are role models, it’s important to send this message to their fans as well.”
Pillay doesn’t think players should be closeted in today’s societies,
“a shame, in this day and age”, that people “had to hide who they really are”.
While rukkle anxiously awaits Cristiano Ronaldo’s reveal that he’s gay, let’s see if any other gay world cup players come out.
