Robbie Rogers's L.A. Galaxy Wins The MLS Cup

Robbie Rogers, the only openly gay player in Major League Soccer, has ended the season on a high.

Rogers and his team Los Angeles Galaxy have won the MLS cup with a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution.

Writing on Facebook following the win, Rogers said “This MLS Cup is for so many people my teammates, family and friends. The fans obviously and for everyone that thought it would never be possible. Thank you #LAGalaxy”

Robbie Rogers became the first active openly gay male athlete to compete in a U.S. professional team sport in May 2013, when he entered the Major League Soccer game between the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders, as a substitute for the L.A. Galaxy.

Robbie has also released a new memoir, Coming Out to Play, that chronicles his journey from childhood through college sports and his professional career—retiring, coming out and playing once more.
