Macklemore’s ‘Same Love’ Is The Only VMA Performance Worth Remembering
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have won ‘Best Video With A Social Message’ for ‘Same Love’ at this year’s VMA’s.
Although Miley Cyrus’ twerk-spasm is dominating the post VMA conversation, the live performance of ‘Same Love’ is one clearly more worthy of attention.
It’s a shame that Miley Cyrus’ twerk-spasm is dominating the post-MTV Video Music Awards conversation this week. From Justin Timberlake’s lifetime achievement award and N-Sync reunion, to Macklemore’s quieter, gentler performance of ‘Same Love’, there’s plenty more worthy moments worth talking about.
Jason Collins, who in April became the first high profile US athlete to come out as gay, took to the VMA stage on Sunday with rapper A$AP Rocky to introduce the live performance of ‘Same Love’.
“The only way things change is when you stand up for what you believe in,” Collins told the crowd before introducing Seattle rapper Macklemore, who performed his gay-rights anthem ‘Same Love,’ which won the award for ‘Best Video With a Social Message’.
