After winning the SAG Award and the Golden Globe Award, Jared Leto wins Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

Leto was the odds-on favourite to win Best Supporting Actor for his role as a transgender woman in the film.

He acknowledged the support of his Mother in his acceptance speech,

“She encouraged her kids to be creative and to work hard and to do something special. I love you mom and thank you for teaching me to dream.”

As well, he acknowledged the HIV/AIDS community,

“…the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and those of you out there who have ever felt injustice for who you are and who you love, tonight I stand here with you and for you.”

During the ceremony, Oscar host Ellen Degeneres took a selfie with a number of famous celebrities (including Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, and Bradley Cooper). This resulted in Twitter users retweeting the photo over 1.2 million times and caused a temporary crash to its system.
