Golden Globe Nominations - LGBT Characters - Michael Douglas and Matt Damon

The Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday for both film and television.

The nominations recognised a number of LGBT characters including Michael Douglas’ portrayal of Liberace.

The nominations for the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced yesterday. The nominees included a number of tv and film actors for their portrayal of LGBT characters.

Michael Douglas and Matt Damon were both recognized for their work as a gay couple in Behind The Candelabra. The HBO television movie features Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his gay lover, Scott Thorson.

Jared Leto received a supporting actor nomination for his character in Dallas Buyer’s Club.  In the film, he portrays a transwoman with AIDS.  Leto commented upon hearing of his nomination,

“This is absolutely incredible, I’m blown away by this Golden Globe Award nomination and so thankful to the incredible filmmakers for inviting me to help bring a fascinating story to the screen. This has been an unforgettable experience.”

As well, France’s lesbian love story, Blue is the Warmest Color, was nominated for Best Foreign Film.
