So heartbreaking, inspiring, and beautiful. Tears of so many years of inner struggle turned to relief. What wonderful words from your father, not of acceptance (because that’s not what we need) but of love and understanding.

My partner of 13 years and I are getting married in March. I am from Australia, he from Ohio. The red-tape issues surrounding our relationship (prior to the disintegration of DOMA) has made things especially hard, being that my partner has had to leave his family in Ohio so we can live together in Sydney. The new marriage laws for same-sex couples is a blessing.

We never really “came out,” but rather allowed our relationship to reveal itself over time to our family and friends. I guess there was both a level of fear and defiance in our decision to let it play out that way. But everyone can see our love and happiness; it is up to them as individuals to love us or not.

You two really know how to tug at the heart strings. Wonderful!
