Microsoft has officially announced Xbox One as its next home game console.

Xbox One will be cloud-based and is being billed as an “all-in-one” game console and home entertainment centre.

The newly unveiled Microsoft Xbox One has an 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive and Blu-ray. The controller design is similar to the current Xbox 360 controller, with an improved d-pad and force feedback for both of the shoulder triggers.

The system will include a redesigned Kinect sensor, capturing video at 1080p and 60 frames per second. The new sensor can also detect new movements like wrist rotations and how the body shifts weight as it moves.

Microsoft has confirmed that while Xbox One won’t require an always-on connection, there will be a fee to play used games. Xbox One won’t work without Kinect attached, will support up to 1000 Xbox Live friends, and will carry over achievements from Xbox 360.

Ray Manzarek has died, aged 74.

The founding member of The Doors passed away on Monday at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany.

The Doors’ founding keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, died in Germany on Monday (May 20) after a long fight with cancer, the official Doors Facebook page announced. He was 74.

Ray formed The Doors in 1965 upon meeting poet Jim Morrison on Venice Beach. The Doors went on to become one of the most iconic and influential bands of the 1960s, selling over 100 million albums worldwide.

Manzarek is survived by his brothers Rick and James, his wife Dorothy, his son Pablo, and three grandchildren. Instead of flowers, the family’s asked that a donation be made in Manzarek’s name at www.standup2cancer.org.

Angelina Jolie has undergone a double mastectomy.

The actress revealed in an op-ed piece for the New York Times, that she recently underwent a preventive double mastectomy because of her high risk of breast cancer.

Angelina Jolie has revealed that she has undergone a preventative double mastectomy. She explains that her doctors estimate her risk of breast cancer at 87%, and 50% risk of ovarian cancer. Once she was told this, she decided to be proactive and minimise the risk.

“I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex,” Jolie writes.

The three-months of surgeries was completed on April 27th, with Jolie and her family managing to keep what was going on private.

“I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition,” says Jolie.

Jolie’s open letter is in a hope to raise awareness and let other woman know that they have options available and make informed decisions.

“I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer,” it said in the letter. She also noted that Brad Pitt, her longtime partner with whom she has six children, has been “loving and supportive” throughout the entire process.

Seth Meyers is to succeed Jimmy Fallon as host of ‘Late Night’.

Meyers was announced as Fallon’s replacement on the late night chat show by NBC over the weekend, confirming the widely-published rumours.

Seth Meyers is trading in the Saturday Night Live ‘Weekend Update’ desk to succeed Jimmy Fallon as host of ‘Late Night’. The switch takes place next year when Fallon succeeds Jay Leno at the Tonight Show.

Following the announcement, Meyers said “12.30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said in a statement “We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation.”

The comedian will become the fourth host of Late Night, following on from David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and current presenter Fallon.

Man of Steel

It seems that Warner Bros. have decided that the way to make people take their DC comic book heroes seriously is by not telling us their name in the title, eg. The Dark Knight, Man of Steel.

However, regardless of how they try to push ‘Man of Steel’, anyone over 40 is gonna be asking for two tickets to Superman! I don’t blame WB though as the last three cinematically released films with the word Superman in the title sucked Bizarro’s balls.

It’s a tough sell for such a hugely well-known character. Audiences enjoyed the humanistic, flawed angst and ingenuity of the recent Batman films so how will they feel about about Mr. Superperfect? who can fly, is bulletproof and has so many other powers previous films seemed to make them up as they went along.

Thankfully the trailer for Man of Steel sells it. Superman is out against his finest foe (Zod-Michael Shannon) and there seems to be a sprinkling of the Dark Knight darkness and realism so we might actually feel a bit grounded and invested in Supes predicament.

The Great Gatsby

Australia stank more than a didgeridoo with a dead wallaby in it… yeah it was bad, worse than that didgeridoo/wallaby comparison, but Baz Luhrmann seems to back on form. To be fair, he didn’t take any chances and decided to adapt some classic literature, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.

It’s pretty much about how life isn’t all a party, in fact the trailer makes it look like there’s a lot more partying than there probably is in the film, but don’t let that bog you down. Leo DiCaprio is inspired casting as the mysterious and charming Jay Gatsby and it looks like the soundtrack is gonna be whopper.

Luhrmann may have had to calm down a bit with the camera movement as this was shot in 3D, which wouldn’t have allowed him to bounce the camera off the walls like he did in Moulin Rouge.

The Wolverine

Let it be said Hugh Jackman is Wolverine – nobody else will be considered, if some young upstart wants the role he’d have to pull it from Hugh’s cold dead claws, don’t even think about it bub.

What’s great is that judging by the trailer for Wolverine it looks like he’s got it down, he was close in the excellent X2, but Last Stand and Origins undid all that. The Wolverine however looks like one of the greatest comic book characters ever written has finally gotten the rip-roaring, head-slicing, arm slicing vehicle he so sorely deserves. SNIKT! SNIKT!

Monsters University

Even the most wide-eyed Pixar devotee must have had a cynical snort at the idea of a Monsters Inc. prequel, as, lets face it, Pixar aren’t perfect (Cars) and they’re not artistically above wheeling out a franchise installment for pure bank account fattening purposes (Cars 2).

But Monsters University looks pretty damn good. Reuniting (or should that be pre-reuniting?) Mike and Sully on the big screen again to show how they met during their college years is a stroke of genius. The trailer sells it, an origins story featuring every college movie trope you can think of (well the family friendly ones anyway) with the best animated comedy duo since, well Woody and Buzz obviously.

Pacific Rim

If you asked me when I was 11 to describe my dream movie it would look a hell of a lot like Pacific Rim and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Sure, you may be wary of the whole giant fighting robots… erm sub-genre, but that’s because of Michael Bay and his bafflingly popular Transformers franchise where he somehow made giant fighting robots a dull and confusing thing. How do you go wrong with that concept?!!

Someone who won’t go wrong with this concept is dream weaver Guillermo del Toro, of Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth. Del Toro is the perfect director to show us that giant fighting robots can be awesome, especially when they’re fighting giant monster aliens.

Tom Cruise has signed a deal to star in the next MI movie.

Cruise is set to put his body through another series of death-defying stunts after officially signing on to return as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 5.

It has been confirmed this week that Tom Cruise will returning as Ethan Hunt in the follow-up to 2011′s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, who are co-financing the movie, are expected to confirm further details – including a writer, director and release timeframe – in the near future. It has been rumoured however, that Christopher McQuarrie, who most recently worked with Cruise on Jack Reacher, is in contention to direct.

Fans of the movie franchise will remember Cruise’s stunts atop the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Fugees Star Lauryn Hill is heading to jail.

The Grammy-winning singer has been sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay taxes on earnings of around $1m.

Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion. The former Fugees star will then spend three months on house arrest and nine months on supervised release.

Hill pleaded guilty in June 2012 to “intentionally and willingly” failing to file federal tax returns for the $1.8 million she earned between 2005 and 2007.

In a statement to the judge, Hill said that she intended to pay the taxes but could not after ending her music career. She told the court…

“I was put into a system I didn’t know the nature of… I’m a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me. I sold 50 million units… now I’m up here paying a tax debt. If that’s not likened to slavery, I don’t know what is.”

Hill burst into mainstream popularity first with The Fugees, and then her 1998 solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” which won five Grammy awards. The singer, who has six children, will report to prison on July 8.

The actress – who is dating Ashton Kutcher – beat 99 other female celebrities from across the globe to top the 2013 poll, taking the crown from the Brits for the first time in four years.

Kris Kross star Chris Kelly has died at the age of 34.

Kelly formed one half of the 1990′s kid rap duo, who are best known for their hit song ‘Jump’ (above).

Chris Kelly of the 1990′s rap duo Kris Kross, who made one of the decade’s most memorable songs with the chart topping ‘Jump’, has died aged 34.

Betty Honey of the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office said he was pronounced dead around 5pm local time on Wednesday at the Atlanta Medical Centre.

Chris Kelly, known as ‘Mac Daddy’, and Chris Smith, known as ‘Daddy Mac’, were discovered at the tender age of 13 in an Atlanta mall by music mogul Jermaine Dupri.

The energetic duo – whose trademark was wearing their baggy clothes backwards – burst onto the scene in 1992 with one of the biggest songs of the year, ‘Jump’, from their multi-platinum debut album ‘Totally Krossed Out’.

Respects for the late star have come flooding in on Twitter, with rapper LL Cool J even dedicating his new track ‘Jump On It’ to him…

Jason Collins, a 34-year-old center with 12 years’ experience in the NBA, has came out as gay in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated. In an honest and empowering letter in the May 6th issue of the magazine, Collins has stepped out of the closet and become the first American male athlete in a major professional sport to do so.

Collins dominated Twitter’s list of worldwide trends following the news. He received messages of support from fans, celebrities and even the US president! After remaining quiet for most of the day, Collins tweeted his thanks late on Monday afternoon…
